About this tool

This generator builds colour schemes ready to drop into a website, a brand, a slide deck or an illustration. You can start from pure chance or from colour theory rules (analogous, complementary, triadic, monochromatic…), or from styles with more personality: decades such as the 70s or 90s, scenes like an ocean sunset, or movements like the Bauhaus. It is handy for getting a project off the ground or for finding alternatives to a palette you already have.

Pick a strategy from the menu on the left and press “Generate” or the space bar. If a colour works, lock it with the padlock and it will stay put on the next roll. Click any swatch to fine-tune it with the colour picker, and use the − and + buttons to work with anything from 2 to 11 colours. When you are done, copy the codes, the CSS variables or the JSON, or download a PNG image of the palette.

Everything is calculated in your browser: there is no account, nothing is sent to a server and you can generate as many palettes as you like. Values are copied in whichever colour notation you have selected (HEX, RGB, HSL, OKLCH…). Each colour in the list has a shortcut to the Tailwind shade generator. The tool does not check contrast between colours, so if text will sit on top of the palette, test it before you publish.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a colour palette that works together?

Start with a colour theory strategy such as “Analogous” or “Complementary”, lock the hue you want to keep and regenerate until the rest falls into place. Analogous and monochromatic schemes tend to feel calmer; complementary and triadic ones give more contrast.

Can I save or export my palette?

Yes. You can copy the colours as a comma-separated list, as CSS custom properties (:root) or as a JSON array, and download a 1200 × 630 px PNG image showing the HEX codes.

How many colours should a palette have?

For a website or brand, three to five is usually enough: a main colour, one or two supporting colours and a light and a dark neutral. The generator handles 2 to 11 colours if you need a wider range.

Are the generated colours free to use?

Yes. A colour or a combination of HEX codes cannot be copyrighted, so you can use the palette in personal and commercial work.
