For SEO
Rank Math or Yoast SEO with their AI modules: automatic content analysis, keyword suggestions, meta tag generation. Rank Math is slightly superior for technical SEO, Yoast has better onboarding for beginners. Either one covers 90% of a WordPress site’s SEO needs.
AIOSEO is the third valid option. Its automatic schema markup generation module is one of the best on the market.
For content generation
AI Engine: an essential plugin if you want to connect WordPress to an AI API (Claude, GPT, LLaMA local). It lets you use AI directly in the editor to generate content, translate, summarise, and improve existing text. Setup is straightforward and it supports multiple providers.
Bertha AI: native integration with OpenAI within the WordPress block editor. For quick generation of copy, blog posts and descriptions, it is the fastest tool.
For images
Imagify or ShortPixel: automatic image compression with WebP conversion. A notable improvement in Core Web Vitals with a plugin that takes five minutes to configure.
Stable Diffusion for WordPress: AI image generation directly from the editor. Useful for sites with a high volume of editorial content that requires unique images.
For speed
LiteSpeed Cache (if your hosting supports it) or WP Rocket: caching, minification, lazy loading, database optimisation. They are not AI plugins, but they are essential for WordPress to run fast. Without one of these two, no SEO optimisation is worth a thing.
FlyingPress is a more recent alternative with very good performance and support for Core Web Vitals.
For analytics and reports
Google Site Kit: Google’s official integration with WordPress. Connects GA4, Search Console, AdSense and PageSpeed in a single dashboard within your admin. Essential.
Independent Analytics: a privacy-friendly alternative to Google Analytics, self-hosted. For websites with GDPR compliance concerns that prefer not to use Google Analytics.
For chatbots
ChatBot AI Plus or Tidio: a chatbot that connects to your knowledge base and answers visitor queries. If you build your own chatbot with LLaMA on your own server, the plugin only serves to insert the widget in WordPress — for that, Insert Headers and Footers is enough.
