About this tool
Turning a Word document into a PDF is what you do before sending a quote, an invoice, a CV or any text you do not want to fall apart when it is opened on another computer. A PDF keeps its layout, looks the same on every device and cannot be edited by accident. This tool accepts Word .docx and .doc files, LibreOffice and OpenOffice .odt files, and .rtf files of up to 25 MB.
Drop the file onto the upload area, click to choose it, or paste it from the clipboard. You will see the upload progress and, a few seconds later, a button to download the PDF, which keeps the name of your document. If something goes wrong (a file that is not a Word document, one that is too large, or a conversion that takes too long) the reason is shown on screen.
Unlike almost every other tool on this site, this one does not run inside your browser: the document travels encrypted to the BAI server, where LibreOffice converts it to PDF. The original file and the PDF are deleted as soon as the conversion finishes and no copy is kept. If the document uses unusual fonts that the server does not have, similar ones are used instead and the result may differ slightly from Word.

Is my document stored on the server?
No. The file is uploaded to the BAI server only to convert it; the original and the PDF are deleted as soon as the conversion finishes, even if it fails.
Which formats can I convert to PDF?
Word documents (.docx and .doc), LibreOffice or OpenOffice OpenDocument text (.odt) and rich text (.rtf), up to 25 MB.
Why does the PDF not look exactly like it does in Word?
It is almost always the fonts: if the document uses a font the server does not have, a similar one is used instead. For an identical result, use common fonts or save as PDF from Word itself.
Can I convert PDF to Word?
Not yet. We are still choosing a PDF to Word conversion engine that gives good results and that we can use with confidence.
