About this tool
On screen, long blocks of text put readers off. Counting paragraphs helps you spread the information out: blog posts and product pages work best with paragraphs of three to five lines, and some essays or applications ask for a set number of paragraphs. This tool counts them and tells you how many words each paragraph has on average.
Paste your text into the box. The number of paragraphs is highlighted at the top, together with the average words per paragraph; further down you also get lines, words, sentences and characters. If the average is high, look for a change of topic and add a blank line to split the paragraph: the count updates instantly. “Copy stats” copies every figure.
A paragraph is any block of text separated from the next by at least one blank line, which is how text pastes from Word, Google Docs and most websites. A single line break inside a block adds a line, not a paragraph. The whole analysis happens in your browser and the text never leaves your device; formatting is dropped and only the text is counted.

Why do I get too many paragraphs when pasting from a PDF?
PDFs often break every line and sometimes add empty lines. If that happens, remove the extra breaks before counting to get a realistic figure.
