About this tool
This generator creates lorem ipsum placeholder text in whatever amount you need: by paragraphs, by sentences or by an exact number of words. How do I use the lorem ipsum generator?

What is lorem ipsum and where does it come from?
Lorem ipsum is Latin-looking placeholder text that has been used in graphic and editorial design for a long time. It comes from a treatise by Cicero, “De finibus bonorum et malorum”, written in 45 BC, but it has been cut and scrambled: the words look like Latin and have a length and rhythm similar to real text, but they do not form meaningful sentences.
That is exactly why it works: someone looking at a mock-up does not start reading and focuses on the type, the spacing and the hierarchy instead. Real English text would draw attention to what it says, and repeating “text text text” produces a block that is too even to look like real copy.
When should you use placeholder text, and when not?
It is useful in the early stages of a design: to compare two layouts, try out a typeface, check how a block copes with long and short text, or show a structure before the content is written.
It should not be left on a live website. For Google and AI search engines, a page with lorem ipsum is a page with no useful content; for visitors, it is a sign the site is unfinished. In web design projects, the best approach is to replace the placeholder with the real copy as early as possible, because real text is almost always longer or shorter than expected and changes the design.
Nor is it a good idea for testing accessibility or readability: lorem ipsum has no accents and its words are shorter than those of many languages. For those tests, use real text in the language the site will use.
Tips for using it well in a mock-up
Generate amounts close to the real ones: if a product card will have about 40 words, fill it with 40, not three paragraphs. Test the extreme case too, with a very long title, to see whether the design holds up. And mark what is provisional so that nobody publishes it by mistake: searching the site for “lorem” before launch is a simple check that avoids surprises.
