About this tool
Turn every letter in a block of text into lowercase with one click. It is the quick fix when someone typed an email or document with Caps Lock on, when you copy data from an old system that stores everything in CAPITALS, or when you prepare email lists, tags or URL slugs that must be lowercase so they don’t end up duplicated. Accented letters are handled properly: “CAFÉ” becomes “café”.
Paste your text into the box and press “Convert to lowercase”. The result replaces the original and you can copy it with the button alongside. If you then want capitals back at the start of each sentence, use “Sentence case” in the Case panel; to remove repeated lines from a list you have just normalised, use “Remove duplicates” in the Lines panel.
Everything happens in your browser: the text is not uploaded anywhere, though it stays in local storage until you clear it. The converter cannot tell which words are names or acronyms, so “NASA” or “London” will also end up in lowercase — check them before you publish.
Frequently asked questions
How do I fix text typed with Caps Lock on?
Convert it to lowercase here, then apply “Sentence case” so each sentence starts with a capital. You will only need to fix proper nouns by hand.
Is it useful for cleaning up an email list?
Yes. Email addresses are effectively case-insensitive, so lowercasing them before removing duplicates stops the same person being counted twice.
Does it work with accented or non-Latin letters?
Yes. “ÉCOLE” becomes “école”, and Greek or Cyrillic capitals are converted too.
Can I lowercase just part of my text?
The tool converts everything in the box. For one section, paste just that part, convert it and copy it back into your document.
