Delete the blank lines from a text or list in one go.
About this tool
Blank lines often get in the way: copying text from an email or web page produces double line breaks, some programs export empty rows, and lists pasted from Word end up full of gaps. This tool deletes every empty line in one go, including lines that only contain spaces or tabs, and leaves the rest of your text exactly as it was.
Paste your text and press “Remove empty lines”. Lines with content stay in the same order, unchanged, and the counter in the bottom bar shows how many are left. To tidy spaces within each line as well, follow up with “Remove extra spaces”; to merge everything into one paragraph, use “Join lines” in the Clean up panel.
The text is processed in your browser without being sent to a server. Be aware that every blank line goes, including those between paragraphs, so multi-paragraph text becomes one continuous run of lines. If you need to keep the space between paragraphs, this isn’t the right tool.
Frequently asked questions
Are lines with only spaces removed too?
Yes. A line containing nothing but spaces or tabs counts as empty and is deleted.
How is this different from “Join lines”?
“Remove empty lines” only deletes the gaps and keeps each line separate. “Join lines”, in the Clean up panel, merges all the text into a single paragraph separated by spaces.
Does it work with source code?
Yes, it removes blank lines without touching the indentation of the others. Double-check languages where blank lines matter, such as Markdown or YAML.
Does it change the order of the lines?
No. Lines with content keep their order; only the gaps disappear.
