About this tool
WEBP is the format web performance tools such as PageSpeed Insights recommend, because it is noticeably smaller than PNG and still supports transparency. Converting your site’s PNGs (icons, illustrations, product shots, banners) to WEBP helps pages load sooner, especially on mobile, and can improve metrics like LCP.
Drop your PNG files onto the upload area; WEBP is already selected as the output. For a result identical to the original, turn on “Lossless”; for the lightest file, leave it off and adjust the quality (80 to 90 usually works well). You can also shrink the dimensions under “Resize” while you are at it. Convert, then download each image or a ZIP with all of them.
Processing happens in your browser and files are not uploaded. PNG transparency is kept in both lossy and lossless mode. The WEBP encoding is done by the browser itself: Chrome, Edge and Firefox handle it fine, but some versions of Safari cannot create WEBP files, so if the result looks odd, try another browser.

Does WEBP keep PNG transparency?
Yes. WEBP supports an alpha channel in both lossy and lossless mode, so transparent backgrounds are preserved.
How much smaller is WEBP than PNG?
It depends on the image, but for photos and illustrations with gradients a WEBP between a half and a quarter of the size is common. Very simple graphics gain less.
Do all browsers display WEBP images?
Yes, every current browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge) displays them. Only some older desktop programs may fail to open them.
Lossy or lossless: which is better for the web?
For photos and illustrations, lossy at quality 80–90 gives far lighter files with no visible difference. Lossless suits screenshots with text or graphics where every pixel counts.
