About this tool
Lots of websites serve their images as WEBP, and when you save one you end up with a file your editor, layout software or an older platform refuses. Converting it to PNG fixes that: PNG opens in any application, keeps transparency and adds no quality loss, which makes it the safe choice if you want to keep editing the image.

Keep “Preserve transparency” switched on so transparent backgrounds stay as they are, or turn it off and choose a background colour. The conversion runs in your own browser and the image never leaves your device. If the WEBP is animated, only the first frame is kept, because the PNG produced is a still image. The PNG may also be much larger than the original WEBP, particularly for photos; if file size matters, consider converting to JPG instead.
Frequently asked questions
Why can’t I open a WEBP file?
Some older editing programs, viewers and content management systems do not recognise the format. Once converted to PNG it will open in practically any application.
Is transparency kept when converting WEBP to PNG?
Yes. With “Preserve transparency” on, the transparent areas of the WEBP are copied to the PNG unchanged.
What happens to animated WEBP files?
Only the first frame is converted, because the result is a still PNG. To keep the animation you would need a converter to animated GIF or video.
Do I lose quality converting WEBP to PNG?
No. PNG stores pixels without lossy compression, so the image stays exactly as the WEBP you opened.
