About this tool
A watermark makes it clear who a photo belongs to when it circulates on social media, in catalogues or on property portals, and discourages reuse without permission. This tool places your logo over any image at just the right size and transparency. It suits photographers, online shops, agencies and anyone sending proofs to a client before delivering the final work.
Load the photo into “Base image” and your logo into “Watermark (PNG)”; you can also paste them, with the first going to the base and the second to the watermark. Choose a spot on the nine-square grid or press “Random”. Adjust “Opacity”, “Size” (as a percentage of the photo’s width) and “Padding” from the edges, and try the Normal, Multiply, Screen or Overlay blend modes. Then press “Download”.
Compositing happens in your browser, so neither the photo nor the logo is uploaded anywhere. The result is saved as a PNG at the base image’s original resolution with no quality loss, although it may be larger than a JPG. Use a transparent PNG so the logo’s background doesn’t cover the photo. It handles one image at a time and doesn’t add text watermarks: the watermark has to be an image.
Frequently asked questions
What opacity works best for a watermark?
Somewhere between 30 % and 50 % is usually visible without distracting from the photo. If you are protecting images for sale, raise the opacity or place it in the centre, where it is harder to crop out.
Why does my logo appear inside a white box?
Because the logo file has an opaque background, which is typical of JPGs. Use a PNG with a transparent background, or try the Multiply blend mode, which makes white disappear on light photos.
Which corner should a watermark go in?
Bottom right is the most common and least intrusive choice, but it is also the easiest to crop. If the photo has important detail in that corner, pick another position or increase the padding.
Does adding a watermark reduce image quality?
No. The image is exported as a PNG at its original size with lossless compression. If you need a lighter file, convert it to JPG or WebP afterwards.
